Mansoura University Hospital Inaugurates Care Unit for Female Survivors of Abuse

Two weeks ago, Egypt established the country’s first specialised unit providing female survivors of violence with both medical and psychological services in a university hospital, specifically the Qasr Al-Aini Hospital. And while they're leading, it's arguably more important for others to follow. Mansoura University Hospital has established their own specialised centre for women who have faced abuse under the hospital’s Gynecology and Obstetrics Ward, in cooperation with the National Council for Women and  the UN Population Fund. This comes as part of the National Council for Women’s annual 16-day campaign to eliminate violence against women.

As a means of further tackling this issue head-on, Mansoura University also established a designated internal email address for women to report violence and sexual harassment on campus, and the NCW is currently pushing for a way they can do so anonymously to protect their identity.

This all falls under Egypt’s Community Service and Environmental Development Sector as part of the national 2030 Women’s Empowement Strategy, and the university has also held a number of workshops and seminars to spread awareness of violence against women.
