MIT and ASU Launch Centre of Excellence for Energy Today

In collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University (ASU) are preparing to open the Centre of Excellence for Energy, which will be the first of its kind in Egypt. The opening ceremony will take place today.

Supporting this project is Dr. Mahmoud El Metini, President of ASU, and Dr. Ayman Ashour, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at ASU. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research will be attending the opening, alongside the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy. Also in attendance will be Jonathon Cohen, the US Ambassador to Egypt, as well as various representatives from USAID and MIT, amongst other distinguished figures.

According to Ahram Gate, Dr. Ashour stated that ASU was successful in building a strategic collaboration with MIT after they received $30 million from USAID to address energy issues in Egypt, which went towards building the centre.

The centre will focus on supporting scientific teaching and research, as well as supporting start-ups in the energy field.
