IBRD to Loan USD 200 Million to Help Egypt Fight Air Pollution
The International Bank for Reconstruction & Development just signed an agreement to lend Egypt USD 200 million to help fight air pollution in Greater Cairo.
The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development signed a USD 200 million loan to Egypt, which will help them fight air pollution through the Air Pollution and Climate Change Management Project in Greater Cairo.
Since the Ministry of Environment found that the most common causes of high pollution in Cairo are open waste burnings and public transport, this injection of funds will specifically be used to improve solid waste management with a new district in Tenth of Ramadan city specifically for disposal, and reduce vehicle emissions throughout the city with the launch of over 100 electric busses. Beyond that, the Ministry of Environment plans to drive up community engagement around the issue through marketing campaigns and activities.
