Homegrown Wheat Will Make Up 65% of Egypt's Supply Within Two Years

Egypt may be known for eating more wheat than it produces, importing more wheat than most nations in the world. After the onset of the Ukraine-Russia war and the global food crisis cutting down access to wheat around the world, that may soon change with the Egyptian government enacting a series of policies to become more self-sufficient.

According to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the local crop this season is enough to fulfill 50% of Egypt's needs. Over the next couple of years, Egypt is set to hike up its crops to suffice 65% of the wheat needs in the nation, with many projects aiding in this growth. 

3.4 million feddans of wheat are owned by the country for the first time, which produces 10 million tonnes of wheat. Necessary arrangements have been made to overcome the global crisis that include importing the required amounts and overcoming issues with the financial cost.
