‘Hetet Hekaya’ Brings Together Egypt’s Celebs to Rekindle the Tradition of Storytelling

‘Hetet Hekaya’ has been making a splash across social media since the start of Ramadan, as Egypt’s most beloved celebrities and content creators take to the screen to tell a collective story that goes through all sorts of twists and turns as each narrator reads out their ‘chapter’.

Starting with everyone’s favourite screenwriter, Tamer Habib, the fictional story begins with a group of supermarket employees who are bored with their humdrum jobs and are looking for new creative outlets in their lives. After Habib’s opening chapter, the baton has been passed to other actors, singers, content creators and comedians to continue the 30-chapter story, including Mohamed Farrag, Riham Abdel Ghafour, Abu, Salwa Mohamed Aly, Mariam Naoum, Arwa Gouda and Hady El Bagoury - to name just a few.

“I’ve always regretted not having studied at the theatre institute, because I missed out on trying improv," Riham Abdel Ghafour said. "Luckily, I got this chance and it turned out to be a lot of fun.”

Director Amr Salama added, “It’s been a beautiful opportunity to combine a humorous spirit with a real challenge that keeps the creativity snowballing.”

A new episode is released every day in Ramadan, but don’t worry if you’ve missed any - there’s a recap episode combining the best moments of the first two weeks on Hetet Hekaya’s Facebook page.
