Graffe Hits Cairo

A new niche food trend has popped up in Zamalek, as Partita introduce Italian doughnuts to hungry Cairenes.

Graffe Hits Cairo

Just when you thought Zamalek couldn't handle any more food outlets, Partita has come along to remind us that there's more to life than sushi and gourmet burgers. Residing in Yehia Ibrahim Street, Partita is Egypt's first graffe bar. What's a graffe, you ask? Well, sadly it's not a drink, and therefore not that kind of bar. Fortunately, however, it's a delicious doughnut-like munchie that we tried yesterday, with smile-inducing results.

Though graffe is usually a dessert, the crew at Partita have mixed things up, adding a few savoury options to their menu. While the dough is sweet and this might be a weird combination for some, others simply relish in having salty cheese and smoked turkey cutting the sweetness. Other savoury combinations include burgers and traditional sogo2 as fillings.

When we moved on to their sweet offerings, we were pretty much blown away - imagine a giant, fluffy doughnut stuffed with custard, Nutella or jam, and you'll get the idea. Be careful, though - eating graffes in public can end up quite embarrasing as the fillings ooze out. But hey, who cares when it tastes so good?
