The Cairo Transportation Authority (CTA) has added glowing new Green Buses to its fleet, allowing commuters to glide through Giza and Heliopolis to Al-Ahram Gardens and Cairo International Airport, all under the comforting blanket of their spacious air-conditioned interiors.

The new bus, which is green in both colour and environmental friendliness, offers a transformed commuting experience for those who live along its routes. Passengers have the option of paying for tickets with cash, electronically, via debit cards or through the imminently-launching phone app.

But the bus that doesn’t stop giving goes further by allowing you to charge your phone on its abundant supply of USB charging sockets, and even comes with free WiFi, so your main issue is deciding which TV show to binge on your way to work.

At a cost of EGP 10 per trip, the green buses will begin operations at 6:15 AM and go on until 10:30 PM each day.

The Green Bus is currently operating two lines. The G1 bus runs from Lebanon Square to Cairo International Airport, driving through Orabi Street, Sphinx Square, Zamalek, Tahrir Square, Ramses, Abbasiya and Salah Salem.

The G2 line will run from Koleyet El-Banat through Al-Ahram Gardens, crossing the landmarks of Al-Mirghani Street, Caliph Al-Mamoun, Ain Shams University, Abbasiya, Ramses, Tahrir Square, Dokki, Cairo University, Giza Square, Haram Street and El Remaya.

To hop on, you can hail it down from any safe point along its path every 15 minutes, while a glossy new ‘Stop’ button inside the bus will signal to the driver that you’re ready to get off, without the need to shout all the way from the back.
