Full Steam Ahead for Egypt's First Female Metro Drivers

RATP Dev has just celebrated the graduation of the first group of female metro drivers, which they’ve trained in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and the National Authority for Tunnels Administration.

According to Wadii Bouchiha, CEO of RATP Dev Transport in Cairo, the women who applied for the ‘train conductor’ position underwent high-level training and tests to determine their suitability to drive the metro and control it. These included individual health tests to ensure the women are physiologically fit for the job.

This shift in the industry is setting a historical precedent as the transportation company continually works toward improving the metro operating system, raising the level of maintenance in it, and adding more technological features within metro stations to provide the best services to passengers and to transfer these experiences to the Egyptian public.
