Find Out Which Two Egyptians Made the Queen of England's Honours List

Every year the Queen of England commemorates her birthday by creating list of people to honour. Coming to the surprise of many here in Egypt, two Egyptians have made this year’s list of honours.

Queen Elizabeth has decided to bestow this prestigious honour to Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, Dr. Nemat Talaat Shafik, and General Bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the UK for their outstanding service and contributions to British Society.

Releasing a statement marking the celebration is Egypt’s favourite ambassador, John Casson, who stated “Today is a day to celebrate how Britain and Egypt working together gets amazing results. Dr. Shafik and Bishop Angaelos have led dedicated lives in service of others and it is right that their achievements and contributions to Britain, Egypt, and indeed the whole world are recognised. They, along with many other outstanding individuals honored for their public service today, are inspirations to young Britons and young Egyptians alike.”

Dr. Shafik has been on impressive role as of late, as less than month ago she was ranked the 66^th most powerful women in the world by Forbes magazine. The Alexandrian native was named Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for her services in public administration and the global economy. As for Bishop Angaelos, Queen Elizabeth bestowed him the honour by making Officer of the Most Excellent Order o the British Empire for his services in promoting international religious freedom.

It should be noted that the Queen celebrates two birthdays each year; her actual birthday on April 21st and her official birthday which celebrated on a Saturday in June. It is during the latter celebration that the honours list is awarded to people from all different backgrounds, recognising those make life better for Brits.
