Farida Osman Wins Egypt's First Ever Medal at FINA Swimming World Championship

After a heated FINA Swimming World Championship finals yesterday, Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman snatched Egypt's first ever medal in the prestigious championship. The accomplished swimmer finished the 50m butterfly in 25.39 seconds, smashing her very own African record which she achieved in 2013, Kingfut reports.

Osman's impressive time won her the competition's bronze medal, falling only 0.01 seconds short off a silver medal.

“I am very happy, I didn’t expect such a great result. I thought I would swim as fast as I could and see where it would take me. This is what I did, I swam giving it all and I succeeded. I didn’t pay attention to others, I had no clue which position I was at, I focused solely on my performance. Although I aimed at finishing on the podium, I must admit I am surprised that I managed to do so," Osman says to FINA.

Farida Osman is one the highest-achieving swimmers in Egypt's history. Last March, she was named the third fastest swimmer in history after winning her first ever individual title at America's National Collegiate Athletic Association.
