Egyptian Women Crowned World Karate Champions

The Egypt team was raking in the medals yesterday at the Karate World Championship held in Bremen, Germany. Nearly 900 athletes from 116 nations competed, with Egypt winning three gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze.

Giana Lofty saw off the challenge against Malaysian Syakilla Salni Jefry Krishnan in the Kumite (free fighting) under 61KG category, and Shymaa Abouel Yazed beat Hamideh Abbasali of Iran in the under 68KG category to take the titles.

The team consisting of Abouel Yazed, Yassmin Hamdy, Lotfy and Fatma Al-Zahraa defeated the French team to clinch the third championship gold. 

Ahmed Ashraf and Mohamed Hamdy of the Men's Kata (fixed practice) team won a silver medal, while Magdy Mamdouh came second in the kumite under 67 KG category. Meanwhile, Mohamed El-Kotby secured a bronze medal in the under 84 KG kumite.

Moral of the story: don't f*** with Egyptians.
