Egyptian Swimmer Shatters World Record for Highest Jump Out of Water with a Monofin

There must be something in the water this year because with the longest dive and the biggest glass floor on a boat, Egyptians have been breaking water-based world records left and right recently. Maybe it's our all-Egyptian love of the sea, or our all-Egyptian love of the river, or… we’re really just spitballing at this point. Hailing from Ismailia, Egyptian swimmer Omar Sayed Shaaban has just broken the Guinness World Record for the highest jump out of water wearing monofins, which was recorded at 2.30 metres high. Seriously, when did we get so good at aquatics-based activities?

Before Shaaban broke the record, it belonged to both Cesare Fumarola and Stefani Figini from Italy, who jumped out of water with monofins at 2 metres high in 2011.

The event in which Shaaban’s jump was recorded took place at the Egyptian Diving and Life Saving Federation, where Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, the Minister of Youth and Sports, was there to witness this incredible achievement.
