Egyptian Researcher Develops Wheelchair Controlled By Brainwaves

Egyptian researcher Abdelrahman Omran has developed a new tool that could prove to be life-changing for people with tetraplegia or other forms of paralysis. Through his work with the Arab Organization for Industrialization, Omran has unveiled a wheelchair that can be operated by brainwaves.

The product is designed to help those who cannot use their hands to operate conventional wheelchair joysticks. Instead, the wheelchair will allow them to use their brainwaves to control it, willing it to move at their command and giving them greater agency.

Having been in development since 2015, the wheelchair is finally complete and ready for mass production. After the first batch of production is complete, some of the chairs will be sold locally, while others will be reserved for export.
