Egyptian Policeman Shoots and Kills Microbus Driver

Another tragic death hits Egypt after a microbus driver was shot and killed by a policeman in the early hours of Monday morning, according to Al Ahram.

The incident occurred after a quarrel broke out between microbus driver and another driver under Da2ery Bridge in Maadi over which driver had priority to go first. In an attempt to break up the fight, the low-ranking policeman allegedly fired a warning shot in the air that ended up deviating and striking the microbus driver in the neck, killing him instantly.

An arrest warrant has been issued for the policeman, and the case is currently being presented to prosecutors for further investigation.

According to Aswat Masriya, the murder of the 26-year-old victim, whose first name was Gamal, has sparked a strike amongst microbus drivers in the Cairo suburb of Maadi asking for justice following their colleague’s death. Official security has surrounded the scene in order to contain the chaos and prevent any escalation from taking place.

Sadly this isn't an isolated case as a similar outcome occurred in April, when a civilian was shot by a policeman following an argument over the price of a cup of tea.
