Egyptian Players Dominate at 2019 US Open Squash Finals

The 2019 US Open Squash Championships at Philadelphia’s Drexel University came to a head today, with both the men’s and women’s finals featuring all-Egyptian contests.

In the men’s final, Ali Farag recorded a convincing 3-0 win over one of Egypt’s most decorated players, Mohamed El Shorbagy, while Nouran Gohar edged out former US Open winner, Nour El Tayeb, in a closely-contested women’s final.

Gohar's win continues a fruitful 2019 for the 22 year-old, who won the Women's Allam British Open in May, before claiming the runners-up medal at the El Gouna International Squash Open. Farag, meanwhile, came into the tournament as the favourite to claim the men’s title and his win cements his ranking as world number one.

This month, all four players are expected to take part in the Men's Egyptian Squash Open and the 2019 Women’s World Championship, which are set to take place by the Pyramids of Giza between Thursday 24th of October and Friday 1st of November.
