Egyptian Pentathlete Ahmed El-Gendy Crowned UIPM Best Junior Athlete in the World

Following a remarkable performance that saw him win two gold medals at the Senior Pentathlon World Cup in Cairo earlier this year, 19 year-old Egyptian pentathlete, Ahmed El Gendy, has been named Best Junior Athlete 2019 by the international governing body of the modern pentathlon, Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM), for the second time in a row.

The award was presented to El Gendy during the UIPM Awards ceremony, which was held in Budapest, Hungary following the closing ceremony of the Pentathlon World Championships.

At the tender age of 19, El Gendy is considered something of a prodigy in the sport – a position owed to his unprecedented performances against senior pentathletes with considerably more experience.

Egypt also had news to celebrate on the team relay front, coming second in the Best Team category, behind winners Russia.
