Egyptian Embassies Extend Hours for Presidential Election Endorsements

In preparation for the 2024 Egyptian presidential election, Egyptian embassies and consulates worldwide have extended their working hours, including public holidays and weekends, to accommodate citizens abroad and to streamline the endorsement process.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that citizens can complete endorsement forms free of charge during these extended operating hours, ensuring accessibility and convenience for eligible voters.

The National Election Authority has outlined the election timeline, with overseas voting scheduled from December 1st to December 3rd, and domestic voting taking place from December 10th to December 12th. In the absence of a run-off, the winner will be officially announced on December 18th.

Currently, seven political figures have announced their intention to run for the presidency, including Gameela Ismail, chairwoman of the liberal Dostour Party, and Farid Zahran, chairman of the leftist Egyptian Social Democratic Party.

Other noteworthy candidates include Abdel-Sanad Yamama, head of the Wafd Party; Fouad Badrawi, former MP and member of the Wafd Party's Higher Council; Hazem Omar, leader of the People's Republican Party; Ahmed El-Fadaly, chairman of the Democratic Peace Party; and Ahmed Eltantawi, former MP and former head of the leftist Al-Karama Party.

While President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has yet to officially announce his candidacy for reelection, several political parties and unions have already publicly voiced their support for another term.
