Egyptian Defender Omar Fayed Joins Turkish Giants Fenerbahce

Following in the footsteps of Mo Salah and Mohamed Elneny, who left Al Mokawloon Al Arab SC in 2012 to embark on their European football journeys, 20-year-old Egyptian defender Omar Fayed has joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce, the 19-time champions of Turkey’s Super League.

Fayed’s move comes after he caught the attention of scouts during the Egyptian Premier League 2022-2023 season, making 29 appearances for his Cairo-based club and totalling 80 clearances, helping them finish seventh in the league. Fayed also played with Egypt’s Olympic team during the African Youth Cup of Nations 2023.

Al Mokawloon Al Arab SC has stated that the move is part of their goal of developing and offloading Egyptian talent into Europe, football’s most illustrious theatre.

As part of his development plan, Fenerbahce will loan out the Egyptian defender for the season to ensure he gets playing time before breaking into their starting eleven, similar to how Salah was treated following his blockbuster move to Chelsea in 2014.
