Egyptian Actress Basma Has Just Joined the Cast of Tyrant

Basma has just become the latest Egyptian to join the cast of American TV series Tyrant after Khaled Abol Naga. She made her first appearance in the fourth episode of the show’s third season, reports Huffington Post Arabi.

The Egyptian actress plays a wealthy woman married to a businessman and the sister of the Foreign Minister of Abuddin, the fictional Middle Eastern country where the show is set.

Basma is starring alongside Israeli actress Moran Atias who plays the former first lady of Abuddin, Egyptian actor Khaled Abol Naga who plays a moderate Muslim cleric, and Arab-Israeli actor Ashraf Barhoum who plays former Abuddin president.

The FX series stirred controversy in the Middle East and North Africa when it was first announced after the creators said it was based on the Syrian crisis. Khaled Abol Naga who had announced his participation in Tyrant on Twitter was also at the receiving end of some scathing criticism after rumours spread that filming took place in Morocco and Israel, something the 49-year-old actor vehemently denied, saying he would never travel to the Jewish state and that the show was shot in Hungary.
