EgyptAir Receives First State-of-the-Art Dreamliner Aircrafts as Part of $6 Billion Boeing Deal

Cairo International Airport welcomed the third of six Boeing 787-9 aircrafts, dubbed the Dreamliner, last weekend, as part of EgyptAir’s modernisation plans, as reported by Egypt Independent.

The acquired aircrafts are part of the biggest deal in Egypt’s flag carrier airline’s history, with aviation experts calling it the ‘Deal of the Century’. The $6 billion deal will see EgyptAir purchase a total of 45 new aircrafts from Boeing, with a view to becoming more globally competitive in long haul flights.

Able to travel between 14,800 km and 15,700 km non-stop and accommodate 210-300 passengers, the Dreamliner Aircrafts will be used for direct flights to the likes of Shanghai, Tokyo, New York and Bangkok, but will first operate Paris flights from June 18th.

It is believed that by the end of 2020, EgyptAir will have received 15 Airbus A320 and 12 Airbus 220/300 aircrafts, with the rest of the purchases rolling out between now and 2027.
