Egypt to Make 50% of National Projects Greener by 2024

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad announced that Egypt aims to turn 50% of its national projects green by 2024, which will be accomplished through bonds alongside the implementation of a nationwide strategy against climate change.

Egypt has steadily been dealing with environmental challenges over the past decade. Alongside the World Bank, Egypt has invested USD 200 million to improve air quality in Cairo, the results of which can be seen in the new electric Green Buses that are currently roaming the capital (with 100 more planned for distribution to other cities across the nation), and the development of an advanced complex for waste recycling, treatment and disposal in 10th of Ramadan city.

The UN Climate Change Conference COP27 is planned to take place in Egypt's Sharm El Sheikh in 2022, which will bring together delegations from member states of the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Climate Agreement to discuss and negotiate the implementation of their climate change agreements.
