Egypt will begin to locally manufacture educational tablets, in response to the increased demand of e-learning the economic toll of COVID-19.
Egypt's children might be in for a surprise when they get to school at the start of the next academic year only to find an electronic tablet on their desks. Likewise, Egypt's adults may be shocked to learn that all of these tablets will have been locally produced.
A new order of tablets for e-learning has come in as a result of an agreement with an international company to start manufacturing them in its factory in Egypt, with 40% of the tablets' components to be locally-made by Egyptian workers. USD 70 million has been invested in the project so far.
The tablets will help students study and take exams from home, and are made as part of a larger effort by the Ministry of Education to digitise the Egyptian student's learning experience.
