Egypt to Introduce ‘Tourism Ethics’ into Primary School Curriculum

Few things are as soul-destroying as walking into one of Egypt's many heritage and antiquities sites, ready to marvel at out our Pharaonic forefathers' monumental achievements, only to find Mohamed Beyheb Samar scrawled against a wall or column that's thousands of years old.

In the hopes of eradicating this most curious and unnecessary of trends, Egypt’s Ministries of Tourism and Education have announced that it is to introduce 'tourism ethics' into primary school curriculum. At its core, the initiative is meant  to help raise awareness among Egypt's young about the importance of preserving Egypt’s touristic and heritage sites.

A meeting between Minister of Tourism, Rania Al-Mashat, and Minister of Tourism, Tarek Shawki, also resulted in the announcement of 'The Ambassador of Tourism' competition that targets high-school students, as well as a joint committee between the two ministries that will structure and implement the whole initiative.
