Egypt to Establish 1,000 Mobile Stations in Rural Villages

With fibre optic cables being installed in 1,500 villages as part of the national ‘Haya Karima’ initiative to enhance living standards in the countryside, the Ministry of Communications has announced that they are also establishing 1,000 cell towers in those same villages. The project is estimated to cost up to EGP 200 million, and to take one year to complete.

The Ministry of Communications also announced their plans to invest USD 2 billion to develop the technological infrastructure at a nationwide level within two years, noting that after they’ve spent USD 2 billion since 2018, internet speed rates across Egypt have increased seven times to 42.5 megabytes within two years.
