Egypt to Convert State-Owned Facilities to Coronavirus Isolation Units

The Egyptian government is currently in the process of equipping various state-owned facilities – including university hospitals and youth centres – to serve as Coronavirus isolation units in Cairo, Alexandria, Dahaklia, Luxor, Assiut, Ismalia, Minya, Damietta and Qena.

The new isolation facilities will be able to accommodate 4,305 beds, according to Minister of Social Solidarity Niveen Al-Qabbaj. Additionally, Menoufia’s UNESCO headquarters have been equipped to take in 200 COVID-19 patients.

This is the latest of a series of continued governmental precautions in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
