Egypt’s Population Expected to Reach 157 Million by 2050

If Egyptian families continue to have more than two children each, the population may reach 157 million people by 2050, according to an estimate released by Egypt’s Population Council.

The council clarified that if the birth rate of Egyptian families were maintained at two children each, the population would only reach 142 million by that time.

Certain factors for these figures include improvements in health conditions in Egypt, including a decline in the death rate from 32 deaths per thousand citizens in 2010, to 10 deaths per thousand citizens now. The death rate is estimated to reach six deaths per thousand citizens by 2100.

According to the Population Council, there have been issues in implementing policies to address overpopulation in Egypt.
