Egypt Teams Up With UN for School Feeding Programme

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli remarked during the World Youth Forum (WYF) in Sharm El Sheikh that the nation’s school feeding programme, WFP School Meals, is a main pillar of social protection. The programme is part of a wider effort to achieve total food security as per Egypt’s Vision 2030 goals.

The school feeding programme is a part of the educational support offered by the UN World Food Programme (UNWFP), which Egypt has been in heavy cooperation with. The executive director of UNWFP, David Beasley, attended a meeting with the prime minister during WYF, where he praised the Egyptian government’s work towards achieving food security and reiterated his commitment to supporting school feeding in Egyptian state-run schools.

Prime Minister Madbouli noted that school feeding has a large impact not only on students’ health, but also on their ability to retain information and perform better during the day.

In partnership with the Egyptian state, UNWFP also offers to educate Egyptians who reside in remote areas on how to cope with climate change as it affects their food security and daily life. What do you think the future of food security is in Egypt? Let us know in the comments below.
