Egypt Rides into the Future with New Tech Transportation University

The Egyptian Railway Authority has revealed that they are working to establish the first transportation technology university in Egypt, which would educate and certify workers to control and maintain any kind of transportation out there, including railway trains, metro trains, and seafaring vessels.

The announcement also unveiled efforts to add a new college to the Technical Institute of Railway Technology, and the Werdan Railway Institute in Imbaba, Giza, which would expand on their curriculum in order to guarantee a more comprehensive education and certification.

The university is part of an expansive effort to improve Egypt's public transportation system, particularly when it comes to addressing the risk of deadly train collisions and accidents. A complete overhaul of Egypt's train and railway system is scheduled for completion by 2023, at a cost of EGP 200 billion. By the end of 2021, the Ministry of Transport has arranged for every old or outdated train in Egypt to be replaced with new ones. The university, in the meanwhile, is hoped to certify train drivers in order to eliminate the risk of human error and ensure the safety of all train passengers across the country.
