Egypt Nominated to Host UN's COP Climate Change Conference
Egypt has been officially selected as a nominee to host next year’s edition of the COP27 UN climate conference following President Abdelfattah al-Sisi expressing his interest to host it last month.

Each year, a different nation is selected to head the Conference of the Parties (COP), which is the supreme governing body for an international convention. Since 1995, every year 190 countries come together to discuss climate change. After COP21, the Paris Agreement was born, which necessitated that all participating nations commit to working together to limit global warming to below two degrees— giving COP a unique urgency.

The announcement was made today by U.S. Climate Envoy John Kerry, with COP27 currently scheduled for November 8th to 20th.
