Egypt Launches Positive Parenting Programme with UNICEF & the EU

Egypt will soon launch a national programme to promote positive relationships between parents and their children, in cooperation with UNICEF and the European Union. The ‘positive parent programme’ will brief parents in rural areas on critical subjects like healthcare, nutrition, support, positive discipline, and how to avoid child marriage, violence, and FGM.

According to Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine al-Kabbaj, positive parenting is a constitutional and legal obligation. In the last two decades, school enrollment has reached 99 percent, and child mortality rates for kids under five dropped to 19.5 deaths per one thousand births. Even so, there still remain huge gaps in knowledge about hygiene, food diversity, and breastfeeding.

The programme will be implemented in villages across several governorates through their hotline number, 1442, which people can call for free advice.
