Egypt Jumps 90 Places to 28th in Global Road Safety Index
Well, if y'all say so.
While a long ride along the Ring Road might suggest otherwise, Egypt has jumped a whopping 90 places in the global Road Quality Index, moving from 118th to 28th in 2019.
The news was revealed at the Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Sweden, by Egypt’s Minister of Transport, Kamel Al-Waziry, who was keen to highlight efforts to improve roads and transportation infrastructure in general over the last 12 months.
According to Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS), traffic accidents decreased by 23.6% from 2018, during which 8,480 accidents were recorded. While it has not revealed exact figures for 2019, further CAMPAS stats revealed that, in 2018, traffic accidents accounted for 3,087 fatalities, 11,803 injuries and 13,441 damaged vehicles.
