Egypt Joins ‘Platform for Redesign 2020’ to Tackle Climate Change and COVID-19

Depending on who you ask, the Coronavirus could be caused by any number of things. Conspiracy theorists would tell you it's a man-made bioweapon gone rogue. People who didn't realize they were watching a video by a Chinese influencer trying exotic dishes in Palau from 2016 would tell you it's caused by people eating bat soup. But many others - most notably the UN Environment Programme - would tell you that it's because we've neglected our planet and shunned essential sustainability goals. And the new 'Platform for Redesign 2020' are looking to change that.

Egypt has joined the new platform, which is led by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment and supported by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies and the UN. Focusing on helping the world recover from the pandemic through sustainability, and thereby addressing the dual crises of COVID-19 and climate change, the plan aims to shift towards a circular economy, decarbonize industries, and decentralize populations. In order to carry this forward, Egypt will be enhancing climate, financial, and environmental protection policies in order to protect biodiversity and combat land degradation to address climate change effectively.
