Egypt Joins Earthdance

Earthdance is a global synchronised music and dance festival held annually to promote peace, sustainability and social justice. The event, which has become the largest festival of its kind in the world, takes place in over 300 cities across the globe. The idea of the festival came to founder Chris Decker during his visit to the Great Pyramids of Giza and in October 1997, Earthdance was born,  taking place in 22 locations simultaneously. Since then, it’s just got bigger and bigger, and each year, attendees wait for the ‘prayer for peace’ track which is blasted at each location at the same time, connecting the world with music. It’s all pretty moving stuff and this year, Egypt finally gets in on the act.

For the past two years Fluornauten, a party décor team from Germany, have been building a state-of-the-art visual experience and a stunning dance floor in Dahab, on the Red Sea. Going for a mystical (trippy) theme, the venue for the first Earthdance festival Egypt has seen will include a light system which will illuminate the mountains of Sinai. The exact location is going to be announced two weeks before the event, which is scheduled to take place on the 20th of September. There will be a shuttle bus service from Dahab to the venue and no entrance fee so anyone is welcome to attend the event.

Now on to the important stuff: who’s playing? Earthdance is all about unity so expect all sorts of styles and genres and both local and international artists.

The foreign DJs on the line up will be OS from Peru, Beathead from Germany and Madltye from Italy. The local artists spinning will be offering up genres from Deep House and Dark Minimal to Techno, Ambient and Acid House with Tamer Auf, Ahmed Samy, NadPassion, MadLou and many more representing Egypt. Earthdance will also be offering yoga, massages, a bar and a chill area and the organisers have assured that the areas is safe. The global ‘prayer for peace’ will be at 12AM GMT which is 1AM in Egypt, so make sure you get there in time.

This is definitely the event of the year here in Egypt and it is one you do not want to miss. For more information, check out Earthdance’s official website http://www.earthdance.org/ or the Egypt Facebook event page here.
