Egypt Building Capacity to Produce 1 Million Masks Per Day

As the number of Coronavirus cases continues to rise, Dr. Sherif Ezzat - head of the Medical Devices and Supplies Division of the Federation of Industries - has announced that the estimated daily output will soon be at one million medical masks per day.

Before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the daily production volume of medical masks in Egypt was at 250,000 pieces. Since then, that number has effectively tripled, putting the nation’s recent daily output at 750,000.

Ezzat added that many Egyptians are now opting for reusable cloth masks in order to save money, slightly relieving the demand for disposable masks for civilians.

Currently, all government employees are expected to wear medical masks during work hours. Many governorates across Egypt have also established sterilization gates outside of government workplaces and purchased bulk amounts of medical masks for use by their employees to ensure their safety as essential workers.
