Egypt Blocks 6 People From Flying to the U.S. in Response to Trump's Muslim Ban

If you come from a Muslim-majority country, Donald Trump’s first week as president may have been a cause for concern. Among many executive orders issued by the U.S president, the most worrisome one must have been his decision to suspend visa entries into the country from Syria, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Libya, Sudan, and Yemen, in an attempt to prevent ‘Islamic terrorism’ in the U.S. And apparently, Egypt is now complying with the policy.

Cairo airport security barred an Iraqi family of five, and one Yemeni individual from boarding their New York-bound EgyptAir flight on Saturday.

According to the New York Post, the passengers were prohibited from travelling despite having valid visas to the U.S. The Iraqi family originally left Erbil for the U.S and were merely in transit in Egypt before they were forced to board a flight back to their hometown. "We were treated like drug dealers, escorted by deportation officers," The father told Reuters.

The Yemeni individual remained in Cairo, as he was not a transit passenger.

Following the incident, airlines operating in Cairo International Airport were formally instructed on Sunday to prevent U.S visa holders who belong to any of the above mentioned countries from travelling to the U.S, according to Ahram Online. Green card holders, government officials, and those with diplomatic passports would be allowed to travel, even if they were from the listed countries.
