EGP 4,000 Fine or Jail Time for Violating Subway Guidelines

The list of violations include men riding in women’s coaches, littering, and smoking while you’re on the metro cars, all of which are fined at EGP 30 to start with.

The Cairo Metro Company has announced a number of new fines - up to EGP 4,000 with possibility of imprisonment - for violating their rules. The list of violations include men riding in women’s coaches, littering, and smoking while you’re on the metro cars, all of which are fined at EGP 30 to start with.

Riding without tickets, bypassing the ticket machine, and not using a face mask are each fined at EGP 50.

Crossing the metro track and soliciting sales inside trains and stations without the proper permits will guarantee a fine of EGP 100. Tampering with the emergency frame and causing any damage to it or the train itself are fined at EGP 400.

Violators who refuse to pay any of the fines will face an increased fine of EGP 4,000 fine, and may face imprisonment in the worst cases.
