Coffin of Ancient Egyptian Queen Tausert to Be Publicly Displayed for the Very First Time

Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities is to display the coffin of the 19th Dynasty’s last ruler, Queen Tausert, at Luxor Museum, marking the very first time it will be viewed publicly since its discovery 20 years ago.

Found at the tomb of King Bay on the west bank of Luxor, the granite coffin weighs six tonnes and is decorated with drawings of the four sons of Horus, as well as inscriptions of prayers for the deceased. It was transferred from its location on Thursday, after a restoration team worked on the piece on-site.

Opened in 1975, Luxor Museum already hosts one the most impressive collections of any Egyptian museum, with some of the highlights including grave-goods from the tomb of Tutankhamun, the mummies of Ahmose I and Ramses I and a reconstructed wall from Akhenaten's temple at Karnak.
