Cairo Metro to Purchase 32 New Air-Conditioned Trains, Just in Time for Summer

Just in time for our blazing summer heat, the Ministry of Transportation has announced that it will be purchasing 32 new air-conditioned trains for Cairo’s Marg-Helwan metro line at a cost of EGP 12.5 billion. The new fleet purchase comes on the heals of another 20 recently purchased trains for the same line.

The welcome replacements are set to take the place of the current trains, which have been in use since the 80s. Meanwhile, Cairo’s second metro line was originally set to receive 13 new trains, but the number has been reduced to 6, the cost for which will be EGP 3 billion.
