Cairo International Book Fair to Provide Accessibility Services

Over the past eight years, the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) has cooperated with Cairo International Book Fair to tend to differently abled visitors’ needs at the annual event. The partnership is being renewed for this year’s 52nd round of the fair, where the NCPD will seek to make the event more accessible and inclusive.

The NCPD will provide sign language translators for persons with hearing disabilities or are hard of hearing, as well as an escorting roaming service inside the exhibition pavilions, where volunteers provide and offer general assistance, facilitate interactions, and also purchase their needs from the exhibition. The council will also provide a sign language translation service during seminars and cultural events presented through Cairo International Book Fair’s online platform.

During the exhibition, the NCPD will also display its latest publications to raise awareness, as well as display audio-books for people with visual disabilities through their “Daisy” programme in the experimental launch of the council’s website, which provides a myriad of accessibility tools.
