Bronze Statue of Goddess Isis Returns to Egypt from Switzerland

A bronze statue of the Egyptian goddess Isis holding her son, Horus, has been returned to Egypt from Switzerland, after it had been smuggled out of Egypt and found by Swiss customs officials in 2018.

The statue, which dates back to ancient Egypt’s Late Period (664-332 BCE), had been examined by Egyptian authorities shortly after it was recovered. It was missing from official records, indicating that it was likely discovered in an illegal excavation and subsequently sold off in the black market.

The repatriation of the statue is part of a national effort to retrieve more historical pieces of Egyptian heritage scattered around the world.
