AstraZeneca to Establish Field Hospital at COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh

As nearly 35,000 people around the world prepare for the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Sharm El Sheikh this November, the Egyptian government is further solidifying its health plan for the event in coordination with pharmaceutical giants AstraZeneca.

The government has approved a grant from AstraZeneca to establish a small field hospital at the conference. The Egyptian government’s health plan starts at touchdown, with the installation of fixed and mobile clinics at quarantine facilities at airports, hosting hotels and conference halls. Additionally, a flock of ambulances facilitating intensive care units will be mobilised to provide emergency health services for the duration of the conference. In cases that require further immediate medical attention, the Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital is prepared to receive patients.

Such measures are considered essential since the conference is predicted to be one of the most attended COPs in the history of the conference, according to a report by the Egyptian Earth's Climate for Sustainable Development Foundation.
