All Egyptian Churches Close Down to Fight COVID-19

The Standing Committee of the Holy Synod has decided to close down all Egyptian churches to flatten the curve of the Coronavirus pandemic. This decision was based on the risks of mass gatherings, and their substantial contribution towards the spread of the virus. The shutdown also entails a halt on masses and all ritual services. Additionally, all mourning halls will be closed and funeral processions will be limited to the family of the deceased only, and each parish is to allocate one church for funerals, and prevent visits to all monasteries.

The closure is effective immediately pending further updates on the status of the pandemic.
