Aladdin’s ‘Speechless’ Receives Oscar Nomination For Best Original Song

If you’ve watched the 2019 remake of Aladdin starring the rising Egyptian-Canadian actor @MenaMassoud, you probably have an opinion about it. But that doesn’t really matter now, does it? Not when the film just got its first Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. The nomination was given for the song ‘Speechless’, which was a new song added to the remake and was performed by Naomi Scott in her role as Princess Jasmine.

The nomination is one of 15 songs that made it out of a shortlist of 75 songs and is one of five Disney nominations in the category alone. Two of the other nominations came from The Lion King, with one from Frozen II and one more from Toy Story 4.

The original Aladdin (1993) won the Academy Award for the Best Original Score by Alan Menken and was nominated for two others for Sound Mixing and Editing.

How do you feel about the remake? Do you like or think this song will win the Oscar? Let us know in the comments below.
