Ahl Masr Hospital is the Region's First & Largest Hospital for the Free Treatment of Burn Victims
With over 100,000 burn-related deaths each year and at least another 150,000 injuries, Egypt has one of the highest numbers of burn victims worldwide. Hoping to dramatically decrease that number is the Ahl Masr Hospital, the first and largest dedicated facility of its kind in the Middle East and Africa offering free treatments. Currently being built in New Cairo and funded by the Ahl Masr Foundation, the hospital is on its way to a grand opening as soon as 2021.

"The hospital’s main task is to bridge the gap between what society can contribute to burns victims on the one hand, and the actual needs of these patients on the other," said Heba El-Sewedy, founder and chairperson of Ahl Masr Foundation. "The main challenge that we face on a daily basis is how to address the importance and severity of the burn case. Around 40% die due to not being saved within the first six hours following the injury."

With 200 beds across six floors, and five units designed to address specific degrees and injuries, the hospital is hoped to serve as a vanguard for Egypt's burn victims, providing the critical treatment that they need within the first six hours to prevent death. Treatment is free, but that can only be possible thanks to a stream of donation programmes to help fund Ahl Masr Foundation's initiatives. To see how you can contribute, you can call Ahl Masr at their 16863 hotline, or visit their website at ahl-masr.ngo.
