Egypt will roll out new fibre optic networks to 52 rural areas as part of the ‘Haya Karima’ initiative, which aims to improve villages across the country by enhancing their infrastructure, and providing them with necessities such as sanitation, job opportunities, education and more. The project will be carried out by Telecom Egypt under the supervision of the Ministry of Communicationsat a cost of EGP 5.8 billion, and is expected to be complete over the next 18 months.

This is a continuation of Haya Karima’s efforts to modernise the countryside, having spent EGP USD 32 billion on a fibre project to provide high-speed internet to 58% of the population in April 2021.
