2.2 Million Students Are Exempt from Tuition Fees

A number of Egyptian students whose families are unable to pay their school fees will be taken under the wing of the Ministry of Social Solidarity. Minister Dr. Nevine A-Kabbaj announced that a total of 2.2 million students are eligible for the ministry to pay their tuitions for this school year.

Exactly 1.1 million of the students who are now exempt from the fees are from families who have applied to the ‘Takaful’ family welfare programme, while the remaining 1.1 million belong to families that weren’t accepted into the programme, but were still selected to be exempt from paying for tuition.

In total, these costs are valued at EGP 280 million. About 2,000 laptops will also be gifted to students with visual impairment, with 2,000 stethoscopes for those with hearing difficulties, and 10,000 backpacks for the students who are most in need.
