154,000 Children Tested for Genetic Diseases in National Initiative

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has examined 154,000 children as part of the ‘100 Million Healthy Lives’ initiative, as carried out by the Ministry of Health and Population. Since its launch last July, the initiative has managed to examine 19 different kinds of genetic diseases inside the ministry hospitals’ nurseries.

The examinations start with taking a blood sample from the child, which is then transferred over to the CDCP labs, who use state-of-the-art equipment to evaluate the sample.

The Ministry of Health and Population has also managed to examine 1,454,000 women as part of another initiative, launched in March, that targets genetic diseases in fetuses.
