Vodafone and Etisalat are Signing the Deal For 4G Licence Acquisition
After Orange acquired the 4G licence last week, Etisalat and Vodafone are following suit.
Following Orange's acquisition of the 4G licence this past weekend, Vodafone and Etisalat have also sealed the deals to acquire the 4G licences. According to Reuters, the move should serve as a means of "[raising] money for stretched government finances."
According to the same source, all three telecom giants – Orange, Etisalat, and Vodafone – originally rejected the 4G licences on the account that the amount of speed spectrum being offered initially would not be sufficient enough for them to offer the services. As of right now, further options for rolling out 4G services will be discussed on October 23rd by the regulator, with priority to be given to those purchasing in US dollars so as to offset the scarcity of foreign currency in Egypt.
Prior to Orange, it was Telecom Egypt that acquired the licence in August 2016 for $797 million.
