Who the Hell is Mostafa Hegazy?

On July 5^th our interim president, Adly Mansour, appointed a new political advisor called Mostafa Hegazy. There’s not much we know about him other than the Richard Gere-like looks and perfect English he displayed yesterday in a speech from the president’s office. So who is Mostafa Hegazy?

Mostafa Hegazy is an international expert in strategic planning. He has a PhD in engineering and strategic management of crises, from the University of Southern California, where he then worked as a professor of management, strategic thinking and institutional development. He is a founding member of the Institute of Administrative Corporate Governance and a member of the Advisory Committee of the World Bank. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees in the World Conference of the Islamic Development. He founded a centre specialised in strategic thinking and companies operating in the area of governance, corporate and institutional development. His field of work includes providing strategic services for the development of entities and communities. He also had a stint teaching at the AUC's department of politics. It must be really difficult to keep up with all those jobs but he sure does seem qualified to advise our temporary president. 

If you watched his conference on Saturday afternoon, the second he took to the stage and started speaking English, if you’d listened closely enough, you’d have heard the sound of thousands of Egyptian women falling in love. Two years ago he held a TEDx Talk called An Elephant in the Box where he discussed how Egypt has been living in a theatrical reality for the past 50 years. He uses John Godfrey Saxe’s 10 Blind Men and an Elephant as an analogy for how Egypt is incapable of seeing the bigger and truer picture. If his looks have failed to make you fall in love with him, his intellect and impressive public speaking skills will have you head over heels in seconds.
