Talabat & Egypt’s Ministry of Comms to Launch Programming Academy

Online food ordering giant, Talabat, has partnered with the Egyptian Ministry of Communication & Information Technology to establish an academy geared at refining the skills of Egyptian youth in the field of programming, with a view to qualifying them to compete in regional and global markets.

On the other side of the deal, Talabat is looking to increase the volume of its business in Egypt, have a wider reach and increase the number of its employees specialised in providing technological services. The Mutually beneficial agreement will help fuel both Talabat’s growth in the digital rapid commerce market in Egypt and build the digital capabilities of the Egyptian youth through technical training programs.

Talabat is set to implement a new expansion plan with the aim of covering all of Egypt with the establishment of virtual stores across different governorates.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s digital capacity building strategy promotes the investment in technical training programs for youth across the country. To meet the new needs of the digital future, Egypt increased its investment in these programs 22-fold, from EGP 50 million to a whopping EGP 1.3 billion with a target of training 200,000 people.

Talabat has been operating in MENA for 17 years, recently acquiring what was once Egypt’s leading food ordering platform, Otlob, in 2017. Galvanized by Egypt’s ambitious digital transformation plan, Talabat is eager to expand its branches in the country and help drive technological innovation. Currently, the platform is running in 20 Egyptian cities and cooperates with more than 10,000 service providers.
